The Njoku of Buea

Client: City of Buea

The sacred elephant of the Bakweri, the indigenous people of Buea. While it was being made, elderly women spontaneously brought bananas and kola nuts to NOUMSI. The Njoku is the very symbol of the Bakweri people, guardian of an age-old cosmology and of the mystical night-time Maale dance.
